Hop Against Homophobia 2012

Welcome!

Homophobic discrimination is a serious issue in every single country on this planet, no matter how big or small. Some countries are more advanced in GLBTQ rights, while in some countries the penalty for being a GLBTQ person is death. All over the world, GLBTQ people are shunned by society, beat up, tortured, raped, and stripped of human rights in various ways. What makes people believe that they have the right to strip someone of their human rights is beyond us.

The Hop Against Homophobia is an attempt by over 250 m/m authors, reviewers and publishers to stand together and create awareness of homophobia. Each participating blog will feature a message on homophobic discrimination in its various forms. The date, May 17th, was chosen in honor of the International Day Against Homophobia and we're hoping to get people more involved with this day by inviting them to our blogs, where the visitors have a chance to win prizes.

To the side of this blog are links to various organizations and foundations that fights homophobic discrimination. We encourage you to visit these sites and see what they're all about. Also, if you have more links you'd like to see on that list, please do share :)

So please, stop by the blogs, read the messages and leave comments :) Please also stay tuned for our after-hop message next week.

Disclaimer: Every blog participant is responsible for his/her own giveaway. The Hop Against Homophobia organizers will not be held reponsible if someone doesn't choose a winner or if someone fails to deliver their prize.

  1. The Storm Moon Press link is incorrect and not working here. Could someone please fix it? Also, I can't access Lydia Nyx's blog from here, either. Thanks!

    1. Storm Moon fixed and I sent Lydia an email. I can't find her blog even if I google it.

    2. Not sure what has happened with Lydia's blog as I had a direct link for it from the anthology released just a couple of months ago and it says the blog has been removed. Can't see her on the list above for some reason - probably as it is midnight and I am too tired to focus properly right now.

Hopefully she is just moving to a new host or something.

  4. Thanks to all the authors for being a part of fighting against Homophobia. I so wish this hatred and ignorance to stop as the world has more important battles to fight other then sticking their nose into everyone's sexuality.
You love who you love, and it's no ones right to judge, and it's time to stop this nonsense that is hurting our brothers and sisters everywhere. Shame on the human race for being so small minded and mean.
    Thank you Ericka!

  5. Thanks for participating in the hop. This is a great cause that I pray one day will not be needed.

    1. Hi :) I wouldn't have stopped you if you'd have put up a post, but since you haven't I'm afraid I'll have to remove you. If, however, you do put up a post, feel free to sign up again (although this is only supposed to be for the m/m writing community - still, we'd feel bad about excluding you if you want to spread the message).

  8. I am a writer of gay fiction and non-fiction, and have always battled against discrimination but also wanted to be part of this endeavor.

Actup.org is a great site for relevant news from around the world on the fight against homophobia and the discrimination and bias that continues to take place based on sexuality or gender expression. http://actup.org/news/

  9. I am contracted for two m/m novels, and a third is at Silver Pub. awaiting a decision to publish. The first two are set in Dark Ages Ireland, when the more enlightened laws of the day (the famous Brehon Laws) not only accepted gays, they were treated as individuals. Interestingly, though, one of the reasons a woman could give for the granting of a divorce was if her husband was gay.

The other m/m book is about a pair of small-town guys whose battle is more against their own inner demons than against a homophobic society. In the sequel, however, I will begin to explore the reaction of the little town of Noble, Nevada to a "favorite son" who they discover has a male lover. Will they begin to avoid him? Or will he be accepted as he always was, as the bright kid who graduated with honors and whose father runs the highway Shell station?

I'm hoping that members of my own family who are gay will begin to live their lives as openly and naturally and happily as any other couples. I also hope that blogs like this one, and groups such as the RainbowRoom, will continue to enlighten us about the important issues the best way we know how--through literature, and through efforts such as this one. Thanks, Erica, NJ and K-Lee.

Although my first m/m is not yet published (WARRIOR, RIDE HARD) I hereby pledge a copy of it as a give-away. It will be published by SirenStrand 0/a August 9.

  10. Thank you so much for organizing this blog hop. I've learned so much about some of my favorite authors and have been introduced to some new authors. It was impossible for me to visit every blog over the weekend, but I've bookmarked this page and am looking forward to making my way through all of them! Thank you again for your work and attention to such a worthy cause.

    1. Oh I know what you mean. I still have 110 to go! We're going to make a page on this blog with direct links to all the blog entries. That way they'll be easier to find for those who want to read at their leisure :) Personally, I'm intent on reading every single one, but that's no gonna happen today. There just aren't enough hours left, hehe.

    2. I am also trying to visit them all. A few I have bookmarked to re-visit. One with an hour and a half video I would like to watch and another with a free read. I have less than 20 blogs to go now so hope to finish visiting today apart from those I want to revisit.

  12. Well darn it - still May 20th over here, but obviously not on this blog's time zone anymore. :-(

Well, I'll still put up something to help support anyway. :-)

  13. Thank you SO much for organising this event. Even though I didn't get the chance to visit/comment as much as I'd hoped, I've found some fascinating blogs, read some interesting, thought provoking, and disturbing posts and had a lot of fun (well as much fun as you can have when sitting in a mountain of tissues with a head full of cotton wool) Thank you again for all your hard work
